Public Lecture “Japan – ASEAN Security Cooperation” (26 June 2013)
The year 2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Japan-ASEAN friendship and Cooperation. What is now considered one of the most successful bilateral linkages started from the partnership in business and economics have now developed to incorporate security and strategic issues. There are many areas of mutual concerns ranging from the traditional balance of power issues, such as the rise of China and its implication to maritime and territorial security questions, to the non-traditional issues of human security, such like disaster relief and humanitarian assistance. The lecture covered the evaluation and future prospects of Japan-ASEAN security cooperation to make this century truly the “Asian Century”.
